Meet the Team

Founder and President
Vera Fang
Vera is a rising junior at Inglemoor High School in Kenmore, Washington.
Driven by a deep passion for education, she founded the How2Write Essay Workshop and co-founded STEMBridge, a youth-led STEM resource network, to share her love of learning with her community. She also serves as a student representative on the Northshore School District Highly Capable Committee.
An avid reader and writer, Vera has extensive experience tutoring and mentoring students in English. She was awarded the Anne Hsu Scholarship by Seattle Chinese School for academic excellence and leadership.
An aspiring physician, Vera is a HOSA State Champion and a research intern in the Harvard OpenBio Laboratory Student Research Institute (SRI) Program. She is also the Membership & Mentorship Director of her school’s HOSA chapter, the Program Director of the Inglemoor Mental Health Advocacy Club, and a COPE Junior Health Scholar. Beyond the classroom, she enjoys exploring neuroscience, biology, and psychology. She also loves reading, writing fiction, competitive dancing, and playing the violin.

Co-Founder and Vice President
Cady Wu
Cady is a rising junior at Interlake High School in Bellevue, Washington. She has worked with How2Write as a co-founder and instructor and collaborated with elementary and middle school teachers as a mentor and assistant. Cady is active in Speech and Debate, where she leads her school's club as head captain, set two state records, and was ranked top 50 in the nation. Outside of extracurriculars, she spends much of her time writing, for which she has earned recognition for by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers and the Chinese American Citizens Alliance, among others. She has spent hundreds of hours volunteering in tutoring programs, whether in English, math, or debate related camps, spreading her love of learning. In her free time, she enjoys working on creative projects such as painting, baking, practicing piano, and drafting new poems.

PR Manager and Instructor
Emily peng
Emily is a rising junior at Inglemoor High School in Kenmore, Washington. She has experience in math tutoring, babysitting, and hours of volunteering. Emily is in Mock Trial as a PR manager and Treasurer, taking first place in regionals with her school in the 24-25 school year. She is also a PR manager for HOSA, and a member of AAPI and Key Club. Emily enjoys helping others and getting to know new people while actively sharing her love for writing and the creativity comes with it. During her free time, she plays competitive volleyball and is part of the school Wind Ensemble and marching band as a flute.

Emily Tsai is a rising junior at Woodinville High School in Woodinville, Washington. She is involved in her school’s Science Club and the Seattle chapter of the Formosa Association of Student Cultural Ambassadors. Aside from being a competitive gymnast, Emily is also a lover of words and reading as a book blogger and a writer. In her free time, she enjoys baking, sewing, and researching obscure academic topics online.

Chenting wang
Chenting (Ting Ting) is a rising junior at Lake Washington High School in Kirkland, Washington. She has experience volunteering with hundreds of volunteering hours. She is a member of the American Computer Science League, the Formosan Association of Student Cultural Ambassadors, the Lead Mentor of a First Lego League robotics team, and more. In her free time, Ting Ting enjoys reading, writing, playing piano, and drawing.

Treasurer and Instructor
Audrey Chan
Audrey is a rising junior at Lake Washington High School in Kirkland, Washington. She serves as the current Vice President of both the Red Cross Club and the East Asian Culture Club. She joined as a volunteer for How2Write to aid students in expressing their words more clearly and confidently, as she believes that strong writing skills can open doors to both academic and personal opportunities. As a dedicated Red Cross blood drive ambassador and an active member of Scouting of America, Audrey has a passion for community service and leadership. She has also gained international experience working as an English teacher and intern in Taiwan. Beyond her academic and extracurricular commitments, Audrey enjoys connecting with nature and creating environmental and artistic projects.

Program Director and Instructor
Sophie wu
Sophie is a rising sophomore at The Harker School in San Jose, California. She has experience instructing small groups of students as a former teacher’s aide for her middle school band program. Sophie is an active member of the Taiwanese Student Affinity group and DECA. She also served as co-captain of both her volleyball and basketball teams in high school. In her free time, Sophie enjoys reading, watching movies, baking, and cooking. As a passionate traveler and foodie, she loves exploring and learning about different cultures. She is currently learning Spanish and Japanese and hopes to learn Korean and French one day.

Instructor
Katia Guseva
Katia is a rising junior at North Creek High School in Bothell. She really loves sports—especially figure skating and dance—which have taught her how to work hard and stay consistent. She believes that everyone can be a great writer with the right support. At school, she enjoys writing and English the most. Katia also loves working with kids and has experience tutoring and helping teach. In her free time, she likes skating, reading, and playing music.

Archie trieu
Archie is a rising junior and attends Sumner High School in Sumner, WA. He has participated in tennis and swimming during freshman year. Outside of sports, he also was a student at Seattle Chinese School for 13 years, winning the honor roll for many years respectively. During his free time, he likes to volunteer at his local food bank, help other people, and find medical internship opportunities for his medical interests.

Laura Liu
Laura is a rising junior at Bonney Lake High School in Bonney Lake, Washington. She is a member of her school's HOSA (as the Vice President), DECA, Student Government (as the PR Director), and Band (as a band ambassador). As an aspiring pediatrician, she also volunteers at a local hospital. Outside of academics, Laura enjoys playing piano, flute, and tennis, and also enjoys running.

Teacher Assistant
Shirley Wu
Shirley is a rising freshman at Interlake High School in Bellevue, Washington. She is an active member of her skating rink’s board organization where she learns skills such as leadership, organization, and working with children. During middle school, she participated in various clubs, including National Junior Honor Society and math club. Shirley loves to share her passions with others, showing this by tutoring peers in school, volunteering at skating camps, and working over the summer to teach aspiring artists fundamentals of art. She is interested in science and art, such as figure skating, painting, writing, music, and film. This season, she has competed in over 10 figure skating competitions, and is moving on to skating nationals. In her free time, she enjoys drawing, playing the violin, collecting, and reading.

Teacher Assistant
Gracie Wang
Gracie is a rising 8th grader at Leota Middle School in Woodinville, Washington. As an active member of the National Junior Honor Society, she served as the 7th-grade representative, strengthening her leadership skills through community service projects. This upcoming school year, Gracie will be a part of the student council in the Associated Student Body (ASB), where she looks forward to organizing events and encouraging school spirit. In addition to her academic endeavors, Gracie has competed in her school’s track team, specializing in relay races and the 400-meter dash as well as participating in recreational soccer. She has also been a committed member of the Cascade Youth Symphony Orchestra for three years, playing the violin. Along with her involvement in extracurricular activities, Gracie loves teaching writing to younger students. She enjoys sharing her tips and tricks, helping them improve their skills. In her free time, Gracie loves to read, write and draw comic books, and play the violin.

Scott juan
Scott is an rising junior at Roosevelt High School in Seattle, WA. He is an active member of DECA and the Roosevelt Investment Club, where he explores his interest in business and finance. Outside the classroom, he is a dedicated member of the swim team and soccer team, representing Roosevelts in various competitions and meets. In his free time, Scott enjoys bouldering and hiking in the Pacific Northwest.
